Over 1,000 get degrees at Thapar varsity convocation

Over 1,000 students were today conferred degrees at the 24th Convocation of Thapar University, here today. Nandan Nilekani, Chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), Pawan Munjal, Managing Director of Hero Honda and Gautam Thapar, President, Thapar University and Chairman, Avantha Group presided over the ceremony.

Abhijit Mukherjee, Director, Thapar University conferred the degrees to the graduating students. Gautam Thapar and Mukherjee also discussed Thapar University’s `Vision 2030′ with the students. Nandan Nilekani was awarded a Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) for his outstanding contribution to, and remarkable achievement in, economic sciences and politics.

Gautam Thapar, President of Thapar University and Chairman Avantha Group *said, “I congratulate all the students who have graduated today and wish them a bright future. I have full confidence that the university will continue to inspire the present and coming generations of Thaparians to explore new frontiers of knowledge.”

Director of Thapar University, Abhijit Mukherjee said, “My heartiest congratulations and best wishes to all graduates receiving their degrees today, and 30 graduates receiving the awards/medals for their outstanding achievements.”

“I am sure through responsible and innovative use of their knowledge, the students will make this world a better place to live,” he added.
