Suprema Inc.’s RealScan-G1 fingerprint live scanner tested in full compliance and received final certification from the Government of India’s Standardisation Testing and Quality Certificate (STQC) for the country’s UID-based fingerprint authentication needs.

All products used as a part of the (Unique Identification) UID program in India must receive SQTC’s final certificates on top of their existing provisional certification, which are only valid for six months. Smart Identity Devices (Smart ID) Ltd., Suprema’s strategic partner in India, supported the SQTC certification process.

The UID program employs biometrics in an effort to identify India’s 1.2 billion residents and is administered by the Unique Identity Authority of India (UIDAI). Under the program, which started in 2012, each resident will have their fingerprints and iris scanned. Information gathered will be embedded in a unique 12-digit identification card, called Aadhaar.

Suprema’s RealScan-G1 is a compact fingerprint live scanner which provides range-leading capture speed and clear image quality, using an optical image processing system. Besides this most recent SQTC certification, the RealScan-G1 has also been FBI PIV-IQS, FIPS 201 and Mobile ID FAP 30 certified.

“RealScan-G1 has been specially developed to meet high-level requirements for India’s UID authentication project which demands fast and high quality image capturing and extra durability in India’s harsh environments. The device also features dust and waterproof rugged structure with IP54 certification required by UIDAI,” Young S. Moon, VP at Suprema said. “Key technology in RealScan-G1 is based on our in-depth expertise in biometrics and image processing as well as our years of experience in large-scale government and public projects.”

As reported previously in BiometricUpdate.com, Suprema was also recently awarded a contractfor passport reader and authentication devices as a part of a nationwide electronic passport project in Mexico.
