MYSORE: Months after announcing the new LPG subsidy reform, the Centre has initiated the process to pilot the scheme in the city.

The Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) authorities have started the process of collecting Aadhaar number and bank account information from a section of LPG customers.

IOCL (LPG sales) deputy manager V U Baby told TOI they have selected customers from three gas distributors– one each from three oil companies for the proposed pilot project. They have requested nearly 80,000 customers attached to Venus Gas Services (IOCL), Little Gas Company (HPCL) and Prasad Gas Services (BPCL) in Mysore to submit details in a prescribed format given to them soon.

Under the system, LPG distribution will be restricted only to customers having Aadhaar number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and hereafter, Aadhaar number will be mandatory for all transactions related to LPG supplies. Besides, LPG refill delivery too will be based on that. It will ensure timely delivery of refills and also prevent multiple connections and diversion of refills which happens in the absence of authentication at the time of delivery, Baby explained.
